Chocolate Lava Cake !

So.. Today i decided to try for the 3rd time to make a perfect chocolate lava cake. And yes, this time i really did succeeded Yippee!!

         Ingredients
  • 6oz (150g) of semi-sweet baking chocolate
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 egg yolks (Other websites put 3 egg yolks but i like mine only 2, it depends you can use 2 or 3 )
  • 1/2 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/4 cup (160g) of powdered sugar (icing sugar)
  • 1/2 (115g) cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder

First preheat the oven to 180 C. Next melt the butter and chocolate together . You can either melt it over hot water like i do or the easier way is to melt it using a microwave. If you are melting the butter & chocolate using the microwave just set it to about 1 minute or until the butter melts (butter melts quicker than chocolate does) and then take it out and slowly stir it until the chocolate melts completely with the butter.

After the chocolate & butter has melted just sit it aside. Take out an electronic mixer (if you dont have one of this you can whisk it with your hands but it will take a whole lot more of time and energy) add in the flour, eggs, egg yolks, vanilla & baking powder and whisk them until smooth.

When the mixture is well blended, pour in the chocolate butter mixture and whisk it well until smooth.

Next we got to prepare some ramekins / porcelain cups / cupcake holder .Buttered them well and divide the batter into them. (PS: I bought these ramekins at Daiso for only RM5 each. Ramekins are really useful as their size are just perfect for making souffles and other stuffs...)

Bake for 15 minutes or until the cakes are set on the outside but still soft in the center. Let stand for 1 minute. Run a small knife / spoon around the cake to loosen it and then carefully invert cakes onto plates. Sprinkle the cake with powdered sugar (icing sugar) . You can even top the cakes with berries or ice cream or whipped cream or anything you like...

It takes about half an hour to complete this dish, 15 mins on preparing and 15 mins on baking. It's a really easy dish . Just make sure to whisk it well or else it well end up like my first 2 tries where i use my hands to whisk but didnt whisk it quite enough and it became too hard to eat .

  1. I remember watching an episode of MasterChef and the contestants were failing at making the cake even after multiple tries. Looks like you succeeded!
